Stephanie and I are saddened to report that Mackenzie “Mac” Dopp passed from this life today. Mac was born on March 1, 2000 and lived for 11 years and 10 months. She was a pure bred golden retriever and lived up to all the great qualities of that breed.
Mac was an avid swimmer and could swim across a lake to retrieve a Frisbee. She could spot the smallest article on a body of water and bring it back to shore. She could retrieve anything and got particular joy from playing tug of war. She had jaws of steel and once she locked onto something, you could rarely pry her loose.
As a puppy, her enthusiasm and joy kept our other dog, Abby alive a year after doctors predicted Abby’s death. She gave Abby companionship and opportunities to play. Then, as the elder dog in our family, it was Mac who raised our young golden Flash and taught him how to swim and how to retrieve.
Mac was good with children, dogs, cats and horses. You could set a toddler on Mac’s back and know that Mac would protect the baby from harm. Mac had a secret love affair with our cat Rascal and the two of them would cuddle together when they thought we weren’t looking. She regularly visited LaLa to make sure she was okay.
Mac loved to play with our granddaughter, Arizona and was always the first person to greet anyone who came through the door. Every night when I came home from work, I was warmly and enthusiastically greeted by Mac. There were days I felt like I didn’t have a friend in the world and Mac would remind me that she was my friend and would always be there for me.
To say that Mac was a great dog is an understatement but I’ll say it anyway: Mac was a great dog.
Mac, thank you for all the fun and good times you gave us. I will miss you so much. I will love you forever and cherish the happy memories you gave me.

Happy Anniversary, Steph! Thank you for being my best friend, beloved sister in Christ, companion, confidant, co-worker, lover, Number One Fan, chef, walking partner, mother of my children, pool partner, literary critic and editor. I can't imagine my life without you in it. We met in Mill Valley in 1972 and had our first date in January 1973. We parked on this hill over looking the Golden Gate Bridge and sat on a blanket in the grass. We stayed up all night talking and watching the traffic go back and forth. At the same time we polished off a bottle of Almaden Burgundy while eating sour dough bread, Italian salami and cheddar cheese. At dawn we watched the Sun come up over the San Francisco Bay from Mt. Tamalpais. We had been friends for about a year but after that glorious night I knew I was in love with you and wanted to spend every night with you for the rest of my life. Being married to you has exceeded my expectations a hundred fold. I can't wait to enjoy the next adventure on our journey through life together.
All my love,
Buck

Dear Visitor: Welcome to the Buck Dopps Here! Thanks for stopping by. I hope you find a few things that interest or inspire you. Like me, this is a work in progress. I've designed it primarily to keep family and friends informed about what Steph and I are up to. It's also a good way to share photographs and ideas with others. If you are neither a friend nor family member but are just curious about me, that's okay too, I'm glad to share with you. My hope is that this will encourage you to share your ideas, passions, and talents with others. Let your heart guide you to the adventures that await. The world needs the unique gifts only you can bring to it. While following your dreams, make sure you enjoy the ride!
"The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, "The LORD is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him."
--Psalm 92:12-15 (NIV)
